
Caldwell County led Carlisle County by as much as 15 points Saturday night in the Tigers’ bid to make it to the championship game of the Paducah St. Mary Christmas Classic.
However, after leading for most of the night, Caldwell saw the Comets flash by late to claim a 64-60 decision.
That means the Tigers will play in the third-place game on Monday, facing Hopkins County Central at 4 p.m.
Caldwell (5-3) took a 34-26 advantage to halftime, and still led 46-41 after three quarters.
But Kylen King hit the go-ahead 3-pointer for Carlisle with just 25 seconds to play as the Comets (4-3) won for the fourth straight game.
It was the Comets’ first win ever against Caldwell in six tries.
Wyatt Rickard topped the Carlisle scoresheet with 18 points. King finished with 12.
For Caldwell, Jaydarius Wilson had 23 points and 12 rebounds. Cade Rowland added 20 points. Luke Parker had eight rebounds to go with two points.
Carlisle outscored Caldwell by 11 points at the free throw line. The Comets were 15 of 20 at the stripe while the Tigers were 4 for 6.
Caldwell was whistled for 21 fouls while Carlisle was called for 10.
