Big games from Tylin George and Elijah Walton were not enough to save the day Saturday for the University Heights Academy Blazers. The Kirkwood Cobras started fast and kept the pedal down as they cruised past the Blazers 87-61 in the Faupel Automotive/Chevrolet GMC Ford Colonel Basketball Classic at Henderson County High school.
Kirkwood jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one and extended the lead to 42-23 at the break. George and Walton scored all 23 points in the half for the Blazers.
Things did not get better in the second half for UHA. Kirkwood’s offense was in overdrive as the half got started and the Cobras extended the lead to 69-44 heading into the final quarter.
Like the first half, Tylin George and Elijah Waltons scored every point for the Blazers in the final quarter as Kirkwood cruised it out to the 26-point win.
Tylin George led UHA with 30 points. Elijah Walton also had a big day with 23 points for the Blazers.
Armani Smith was the top scorer for Kirkwood with 20 points. Bryce Garnett added 17 points and Anthony Goring had 12.
University Heights (1-7) is now off until January 4 when the Blazers will travel to Bowling Green to take on Glasgow in the German American Bank Shootout.
