Butler County Sends Lyons to 3rd Straight Loss

It had not happened in almost five years, until Sunday afternoon. For the third game in the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic, the Lyon County Lyons saw a lead get away from them late as they fell to Butler County 80-75 in the 7th place game of the tournament.

The loss marked the first time the Lyons have lost three straight game since January 4, 2020, when the Lyons fell to Marshall County, capping off a string of three losses to East Jessamine, Crittenden County, and the Marshals.

Both teams had the offense revved up and ready to go from the start. Lyon County, behind big quarters from Nolan Coffman and Bray Kirk, took a 25-21 lead after one.

The Bears battled back and tied the game at the hald 40-40. Butler County’s All-State guard Ty Price had 14 points at the break and he was just getting started.

Bray Kirk had another big quarter for Lyon County in the third as the Lyons took a 62-60 lead. Kirk and Ty Price were in a scoring duel for much of the third with each scoring 11 points.

The two teams battled through the fourth and the Lyons had a lead late in the game only to see Butler County close out stong and take the five-point win.

Nolan Coffman had one of his best efforts since arriving at Lyon County with 27 points. Bray Kirk finished with 20. Carson Collins added 7 points.

Butler County’s Ty Price led all scorers with 40 points. Price knocked down eight 3-point shots, including six of them in the second half. Briar Griffin added 12 for the Bears.

Lyon County falls to 5-3 with the loss.
