Two individual championships and a third-place finish as a team highlighted Caldwell County’s showing in its inaugural Richey Rumble on Thursday.
Sophie Parrish and Lexie Gobin won their weight classes and the Lady Tigers totaled 125 team points in their first home tournament ever at the CAB gym.
Caldwell’s girls were just nine points behind champion North Hardin. Union County was runner-up with 131.5 points.
Henderson County took fourth with 113.5 points while Fort Campbell was fifth with 97.
Parrish won all three of her matches by pin at 100 pounds.
Gobin claimed four matches by pin while taking the 138-pound class.
Three Lady Tigers just missed medals with fourth-place finishes. Kamyra Dickey was fourth at 107, Alyvia Barnwell placed fourth at 114 and Virginia Stewart finished fourth at 235.
Emilee Kildzejs placed fifth at 120 and Jessie Jenkins was fifth at 126.
Caldwell’s girls hosted the regional tournament last year, but the Richey Rumble was the first home tournament for the Lady Tigers.
The event is named for Tiger wrestling Hall of Famer David Richey, who was a three-time state champion. The school plans to make the tourney an annual event.
The Lady Tigers will be on the mat again on Saturday in tournament action at Apollo High School in Owensboro.
