
The Christian County Colonels took another step towards locking up the top seed in the 8th District tournament Thursday night. The Colonels had three players score in double figures as they improved to 2-0 in the district with a 75-51 win at Heritage Christian Academy.
The Colonels got the win despite another big game from the state’s second leading scorer, HCA’s Jason Leek, who reached another career milestone.
Six different Christian County players scored in the opening quarter as the Colonels took a 15-10 lead. With AIden Jesse providing a spark in the second quarter, Christian County was able to extend the lead out to 36-25 at the half.
Coming out of the break, the Christian County defense limited the Warriors to just three field goals in the third quarter. On the offensive end, Jesse continued to provide a life for the Colonels as the lead grew to 59-35 heading into the final quarter.
Jason Leek would have a huge 4th quarter for Heritage Chrsitian but the Warriors could not trim any points off the margin as Christian County cruised on out to the 24 point win.
Aiden Jesse finished the night with 16 points to lead Christian County. Zyon Wharton and NaDarien Rowe added 11 points each. Josh Bridges also hit double figures with 10.
Heritage Christian’s Jason Leek scored 33 points to lead all scorers in the game. Leek also reached the 2,000 career point mark with his performance. Nathan Wheatcraft had 9 points while Sam Thompson added 6 for the Warriors.
Christian County improves to 4-12 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Colonels are back in action Saturday at Evansville Reitz.
Heritage Christian drops to 3-11 and 0-2 in the 8th District. The Warriors travel to Fort Campbell Friday night.
