There are those kinds of games and then there are ‘those’ kinds of games. Whether it was the disruption of the Homecoming Night ceremonies or whether it was playing the second game of the night, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels just never could get going Friday night as they fell to the Logan County Lady Cougars 52-28 in a 13th District contest in Elkton.
The first half was like a bad dream for the Lady Rebels. A dream that you just could not wake up from. Logan County opened the first quarter by scoring the first 11 points to take an 11-0 lead.
Due to a combination of frosty cold shooting and ball handling issues, the Lady Rebels were scoreless for the first six minutes of the game, finally scoring on a pair of free throws from Alexis Taylor that made it 11-2. The Lady Cougar lead would be 16-4 when the quarter came to an end.
Things did not get any better for the Lady Rebels as the second quarter got underway. The saving grace for Todd County Central was that the second quarter was not any better for the Lady Cougars. The Lady Rebels and the Lady Cougars each managed just one 2-point field goal and one 3-point field goal in the second as the game went to the half with Logan County holding a 21-9 lead.
Todd County Central had a chance to chew into the lead at the line in the second quarter but the Lady Rebels went 0 of 6 at the free throw line.
The bad news for the Lady Rebels was that the third quarter was more of the same. It took Todd County Central half the quarter to again find the basket from the field and by the time that Daymea Garrett made that 3-pointer, the Logan County lead was out to 30-14. Garrett would add another 3 for the Lady Rebels’ only other field goal in the quarter as Todd County Central headed into the fourth quarter down 40-21.
Todd County Central would manage a 2-pointer and a 3-pointer over the final eight minutes of the game as Logan County pulled on out to the 24-point win.
Alexis Taylor and Daymea Garrett led the Lady Rebels with 9 points each. JaMya Kay finished the night with 6 points.
Brenley Adler and TyKyiah Mason were the two Lady Cougar players to hit double figures with 18 points each.
Logan County improves to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in the district.
Todd County Central falls to 9-7 overall and 0-1 in 13th District play. The Lady Rebels are set to be back in action Monday evening when they host Marshall County.
