On a night when the outside shot wasn’t falling, the Lyon County Lady Lyons turned to other methods to run past Trigg County 62-31 on Friday and stay unbeaten in district play.
Lyon hit just 7-of-35 shots from behind the arc but converted 30 Trigg turnovers into 31 points. The Lady Lyons were also strong on the offensive glass, collecting 20 of their own missed shots and getting 14 second-chance points.
Lyon County took control of the game midway through the first quarter with a 10-0 run as the Lady Wildcats were kept off the scoreboard for 5:38.
While the teams combined to shoot 5-of-29 from the field in the second quarter, with Lyon still holding a 26-13 lead at the break, the Lady Lyons closed the third frame on a 20-8 run.
Trinity Taylor scored the final nine points of the quarter. Her free throws with just under a minute left gave her 1,000 for her career. The sophomore joined teammate Piper Cotham in joining the 1,000-point club this season.

A 10-2 run by Lyon County to begin the fourth quarter helped trigger the running clock and give the Lady Lyons their fifth straight win over Trigg County and their fifth straight in Eddyville.
Taylor finished with 18 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Cotham scored 20 points for the Lady Lyons and added eight steals and five rebounds.
Courtney Collins scored 12 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Lyon.
Veyda Grinols notched a double-double for Trigg County with 10 points and 13 rebounds. A.J. Navarro added nine points and four rebounds.
Lyon County is 15-2 and 4-0 in the district. Last Monday’s loss to Crittenden County in the championship game of the All-A Classic region tournament does not count toward the district standings.
The Lady Lyons host Christian County on Saturday.
Trigg County (2-10, 0-4) will play Ohio County on Saturday afternoon at Muhlenberg County in the Farmer’s Bank and Trust Lady Mustang Classic.
