
The Hopkins County Central one-two punch of juniors Calajia Mason and Tyah White combined for 40 points and 13 rebounds Friday night to keep the Lady Storm unbeaten in the 7th District.
Mason had 21 points and seven rebounds while White added 19 points and six boards as Hopkins Central rode a strong start to a 61-49 victory at Caldwell County.
The Lady Storm is now 8-6 overall and 3-0 in district play.
Kenzleigh Harrison had two early 3-pointers and Mason added a trey as Hopkins Central ran out to a 9-0 lead while holding the host Lady Tigers scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the contest.
The Lady Storm led 16-4 after one quarter and went up by as much as 14 points in the second period before Caldwell crept back to within 27-19 at the break.
The Lady Tigers (6-7, 1-1) appeared to gain some momentum behind 3-pointers from Tink Clark and Brylee Butts in the third period — and got as close as four points twice in the frame at 35-31 and 37-33.
However, Mason countered with back-to-back baskets to help the Lady Storm build a 43-37 lead through three quarters.
BriNiyah Dulin and Macy Cotton had 3-pointers early in the final frame to help Hopkins Central push its advantage back to double figures at 52-41.
The Lady Storm extended the margin to 15 points late in the game while claiming the 12-point decision.
Dulin added 10 points to the Hopkins Central total.
Clark topped Caldwell with 19 points. Butts had 13 points while KeDarriah Thompson added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Hopkins Central is back on the road Saturday afternoon when it plays at Hopkinsville.
Caldwell will play at home on Tuesday when it faces Union County.
