A cold-shooting fourth quarter ended up costing the Lyon County Lady Lyons in a battle of two of the top teams in the western end of the state Monday afternoon. The Lady Lyons shot a frosty 26.7 percent over the final 8 minutes and that was just enough for the Calloway County Lady Lakers to come away with a tough 63-57 win at the CFSB Center in Murray.
The two teams entered the final quarter with the Lady Lakers clinging to a 45-44 lead. Lyon County made 4 of 15 shots in the fourth while Calloway County hit 7 of 12.
The game had been a battle throughout. Calloway County took a 19-14 lead after the opening quarter. The Lady Lakers’ lead was still five points as they went to the half leading the Lady Lyons 34-29.
Lyon County battled back in the third and cut the lead to one point at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Lyons got to the lead early in the fourth quarter, going up by two points. But the Lady Lakers were able to rip off a 9-point run late in the final quarter to take a 9-point lead that would end up sealing the Lady Lyons’ fate for the afternoon.
Piper Cotham led the way for the Lady Lyons with 22 points and 8 steals. Trinity Taylor added 18 points. Lilly Perry also got into double figures with 11 points for Lyon County.
Jaidan Koch and Sayler Lowe were huge for Calloway County. Koch had 22 points and 8 rebounds. Lowe, who played the entire game for the Lady Lakers, had 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The loss, which was the Lady Lyons’ second straight and third in the last four games, drops Lyon County to 15-4. Lyon County is set to go on the road to Madisonville Thursday night.
