
After scoring less than 20 points in two straight losses, the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team bounced back in a big way and got a little 13th-District revenge on Friday with a 50-44 victory over hosts Logan County.
The Lady Rebels overturned a 24-point loss in the season’s first meeting with the Lady Cougars to even their district mark at 2-2.
A defensive battle in the opening quarter saw the teams split ten points before Todd Central’s Alexis Taylor knocked down a pair of threes on the way to 10 points in the second frame. Reese Wetton countered with six for Logan County and the Lady Cougars took a narrow 19-18 advantage into halftime.
Ja’Mya Kay returned to the floor on fire from behind the arc, draining four three-pointers to score 13 and fuel a 21-point third quarter for the Lady Rebels. Taylor added five points, and Todd Central led 39-30 as the game went to the fourth.
TaKiah Mason scored eight of her team-high 17 points to attempt to fuel a Lady Cougar comeback, but Jordyn Shemwell was a steady 6/6 from the free throw line and Taylor capped a 21-point night with four to help the Lady Rebels hold on for the win.
Todd Central has won three of the last four in the series to improve to 13-10 ahead of a visit from Franklin-Simpson on Monday.
Logan County dropped its second in a row to slip to 13-11, 3-2 in district play.
