
The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers jumped out to a 19-1 lead and coasted to a 68-41 victory over Trigg County on Friday at Wildcat Gym.
While Trigg County never trailed by more than 24 points in the first half, the first quarter was enough to do them in as Hopkinsville hit 8-of-17 from the field and scored nine points off nine Trigg County turnovers in the first frame.
Hopkinsville’s pressure defense limited the Lady Wildcats to just 5-of-19 shooting in the first half. The Lady Tigers scored 23 points off 17 first-half Trigg mistakes.
Trigg cut the deficit to 16 points late in the third quarter but would get no closer.
The Lady Tigers had four players in double figures in scoring. Alicia Davis scored 19 points and added five rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Lashanti Wilson scored 14 points, giving her 500 career points.
LeeLee Love came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 12 rebounds, and TaRia Sharber had 11 points.
Hopkinsville outscored Trigg County in the paint 44-18 and had 13 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.
Reese Bush scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half for the Lady Wildcats, who also got nine points and 14 rebounds from Veyda Grinols.
Hopkinsville has won two straight and four of its last six games. They have also won 16 consecutive games over Trigg County dating back 22 years, and they lead the all-time series 36-8.
Hopkinsville will travel to Logan County on Tuesday and return home for a Thursday contest with Clarksville.
Trigg County will play at Heritage Christian Academy on Saturday and host Caldwell County on Monday.
