Trigg County and Caldwell County combined to hit 20 three-pointers on Monday, but the Tigers hit 26-of-44 shots inside the arc and ran past the Wildcats 90-74 at Wildcat Gym.

Caldwell County hit four of its first five shots and built a quick 11-0 lead out of the gate. Trigg County righted the ship and kept the deficit between seven and 16 points for the rest of the half.

Wildcat head coach Michael Fraliex started three freshmen alongside leading scorers Davaree Gude and Caleb Fogle in an effort to shake things up amid a season-high six-game losing streak.

While Trigg County got things going offensively, they had no answer for Caldwell County defensively. The Tigers hit 10-of-18 shots in the third quarter, pushing their lead twice to 28 points. Colin Whittington and JayDarius Wilson combined for 15 points in the quarter.

Caldwell extended its lead to 80-51 before the insertion of reserves saw the lead shrink to 13 points late.

Caldwell’s ability to drive to the basket saw them score 50 points in the paint. They also scored 30 points off 19 Trigg turnovers.

Both teams hit ten 3-pointers with Caldwell hitting 11 more shots inside the arc and Trigg making six more free throws.

Caldwell’s five scorers each reached double figures in scoring led by Whittington’s 17 points. The senior guard also had seven steals and six assists. Wilson added a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Gude led Trigg County with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Fogle and Lance Breckel each scored 13 points. The Wildcats dropped to 8-17 and will host Webster County on Tuesday.

Caldwell County improved to 15-9 ahead of a Tuesday home game with Crittenden County.
