
Hosts Owensboro doubled up Lyon County 24-12 in the first quarter on Tuesday on the way to a 68-50 win, the Lady Devils’ fifth win in their last six outings.
Owensboro improved to 14-7 to hand the Lady Lyons their first loss in three games.
Shalyn Sprinkles connected on a trio of three-pointers to score 11 in the first quarter for Owensboro. Gizelle Whitlock added six, and the Lady Devils led by 12 with a quarter played.
Piper Cotham drilled a couple of threes to lead the Lady Lyon attack in the second. Lyon County outscored Owensboro 15-14 but trailed 38-27 at the halftime break.
The Lady Lyons couldn’t maintain the momentum out of the locker room. Owensboro blew the game open behind six points from Sprinkles and five for Heleina John to lead by 25 points after three.
Cotham scored 11 in the fourth to finish with a game-high 21. Trinity Taylor also reached double figures for the Lady Lyons with 13, and Courtney Collins had 11.
Sprinkles led Owensboro with 19, Whitlock scored 15, and John finished with 14.
Lyon County slipped to 18-8 ahead of a big matchup with Hopkins County Central on Thursday in Eddyville. The Lady Storm ended the Lady Lyons’ season a year ago with a two-point victory in the 2nd Region tournament.
