
Clinging to a one-point edge after three quarters at Union County on Monday, the Dawson Springs boys’ basketball team ran out of gas and Daishawn Curry fueled a fourth-quarter surge for a 70-61 Braves victory.
Union County looks to be hitting its stride down the stretch with its third-straight win and fifth in six outings. The Braves improved to 14-8 while Dawson Springs slipped to 15-13.
Montgomery Johnston scored eight in the first quarter to give the Panthers a narrow 13-12 advantage. Gavyn Black, Hayden Mills, and Curry each scored six points in the second for the Braves, but Dawson Springs got eight more from Johnston and five for Rex Blue to lead 36-34 at halftime.
Despite a combined 12 points for Johnston and Blue in the third, Union County outscored the Panthers 15-14 to trim the margin to a point with a quarter to play.
It was all Braves from there, with Curry drilling a pair of three-pointers to score 12 and overcome seven from Blue to pull away for a nine-point win.
Curry’s 25 led Union County, followed by Jaidyn Wilson with 11, and Black with 10.
Johnston matched Curry’s 25 for the Panthers, and Blue finished with 17..
Dawson Springs will close out the regular season with three home games, beginning with a visit from Apollo on Tuesday. After hosting Logan County on Thursday, the Panthers will look for a little revenge when Union County comes to town on Friday.
