Kentucky beat Georgia Sunday in Memorial Coliseum in a game where over 70 former UK women’s basketball players returned as part of the alumni weekend.
I enjoyed seeing former players Maci Morris, Blair Green, Makayla Epps and Lea Wise Prewitt who were all part of the 500 wins Kentucky has in Memorial Coliseum.
However, the best part of the day was after the game ended when I stayed court-side to see what coach Kenny Brooks and his players did after a win and it was fun to see.
Star point guard Georgia Amoore was already scheduled to sign autographs for fans and there was a long, long line around Memorial Coliseum’s concourse. There were fans of all ages waiting to get posters of Amoore given out that day and other items autographed but the line had a lot of young girls who see Amoore as their role model.

On the court, Brooks came out for his postgame radio show as he always does but as he finished he mingled with fans and signed autographs before doing his postgame press conference.
Brooks’ wife, Chrissy, was there waiting for a hug from her husband along with one from her daughter, Gabby, a freshman on the team. It was my first time to have a chance to talk to Chrissy Brooks and she is a delightful lady who loves being in Lexington.
Numerous other UK players came out to sign posters and autograph anything else other fans had and none were in any hurry to leave.

I once again got a chance to talk to Tammy Brown Key, the mother of UK junior Teonni Key who continues to be a double-double machine for Kentucky. She is one of the most pleasant personalities you could ever be around and just makes you feel better any time you talk to her.
The biggest highlight, though, might have been meeting Amoore’s parents. I had exchanged emails with her mother, Kelly, but they have been in the U.S. for a few weeks. They stopped out west to see their younger daughter and will now be here for at least a couple of more weeks, including their daughter’s Senior Night game against Tennessee next week.
Kelly Amoore is a horse trainer in Australia and she told me that Georgia had set up horse farm tours for them this week that they were looking forward to.
It was just a fun 20 minutes — even if I missed Brooks’ press conference — to see.
