
Christian County will send seven wrestlers to the state tournament and saw Dane Miller win the school’s first region title in three years on Saturday.
The trips to the medal podium were part of a third-place finish for the Colonels at the Region 1 Tournament at Paducah Tilghman High School.
Miller took home the title in the 144-pound class, capping a 4-0 day by defeating Union County’s Carter Thomas 7-3 in the championship match. Miller got out to a quick 3-0 lead and was able to be the aggressor for most of the match.
Miller’s region title is the first for a Colonel wrestler since AJ Harvey won the championship in the 285-pound class. Harvey went on to win the state championship.

Tay Martinez and DeAsian Harris both took third place on Saturday. Martinez lost a second-round match to Fort Campbell’s Adyn Laird by a 13-10 decision. The two would meet again for third place with Martinez claiming a 10-4 win.
Harris lost his opening match to Caldwell County’s Cale Goodwin in the 190-pound class by a 4-1 decision. He battled back to take a 13-4 major decision over Calloway County’s Lane Parrish in the third-place match.
The Colonels had four wrestlers finish in fourth place. Anthony Velasco was 3-2 and lost to Daviess County’s Jah Patterson 10-4 in the 113-pound class.
Kevondre Young lost to Caldwell County’s Justin Klidzejs in the 126 semifinals and made it through to the third-place match where he lost to Daviess County’s Jackson Stoner.
Deacon Harrison defeated every wrestler not named Kaden Nichols on Saturday in the 150-pound class. Harrison lost to Nichols in the quarterfinals and scored three straight wins before losing to the Daviess County wrestler in the third-place match.
Treshawn Crenshaw also made it to third place match in the 285-pound class where he lost to Paducah Tilghman’s Prosper Livingston-Holmes by a major decision.
The top four wrestlers in each class will advance to next weekend’s state tournament at Alltech Arena in Lexington.
Isaiah Davidson placed fifth in the 215-pound class and will be an alternate for the state tourney.
Jaiden Williams finished sixth in the 175-pound class, battling back after a first-round loss before falling to Apollo’s Patrick Glenn.
Other wrestlers competing at the region tourney were Malachi James (0-2) in the 106-pound class; Nathan Harrison (0-2) in the 120-pound class; Braylan Patla (0-2) in the 132-pound class; Marquis Hart (0-2) at 138; and Bosa Ogles (1-2) at 157.
Christian County totaled 151 points to finish in third place, 16 points ahead of fourth place Henderson County.
Union County won its 22nd region championship by outpointing runner-up Paducah Tilghman 339-254.5. All 14 of Union County’s wrestlers qualified for the state tournament with 10 of them winning a region title.
