Both of Trigg County’s entries at the KHSAA Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament won a match in their first-ever state trip.

Seventh grader Gracee Lingenfelter (16-9) fell behind No. 3 state-ranked Ryleigh Maybrier (22-6) of Harrison County in her opener and was pinned in the first round.

She bounced back to defeat Madelyn Lehenbauer of Moore with a first-round pin in the consolation bracket.

Great Crossing’s Mackenzie McGeorge ended Lingenfelter’s day with an 18-3 technical fall in the consolation round.

Both Maybrier and McGeorge reached the medal podium.

At 235, Kambrie Whitlock (4-4) opened with Harrison County’s Layla Davis, the No. 2 wrestler in the state, and was pinned in the first round.

The 8th grader came back to take down Boyd County’s Destiny Walters in 39 seconds in her consolation match.

Whitlock faced Taylor County’s Jazzmin Coulter – ranked No. 6 in the class – in the second consolation round. Whitlock led 6-2 after the first round and had a 6-5 lead in the second, but bad positioning on a takedown saw her get pinned.

Both Davis and Coulter would reach the medal podium in the 235-pound class.

Trigg County scored six points and finished tied for 54th place.
