For the first six innings of their varsity baseball scrimmage against McLean County Monday evening, the Hopkinsville Tigers had complete control. The seventh inning turned out to be a bit problematic.

After being held to no runs on four hits through the first six innings, the Cougars erupted for 10 runs on 6 hits in the top of the seventh to come back and take a 10-5 win at Hopkinsville High School.

Hopkinsville’s first four pitchers to take to the hill in the game, Andrew Mayes, Dylan Sweeney, Gavin Mitchell, and Gavin Powell, combined to pitch the first six innings, giving up no runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking none.

Sweeney and Chase Fort led the Tigers at the plate with two hits each. Fort also had two RBIs. Gavin Powell and Joshua Embrey had the other two hits for the Tigers.

Hopkinsville had scored three runs in the bottom of the third and then two more in the bottom of the fifth before the big McLean County rally.
