It’s a tough way to start the new season. A night after dropping a 10-inning decision on the road at Trigg County, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons had to go back on the road to take on defending 1st Region champion McCracken County Tuesday night.
The Lady Mustangs got a big performance in the circle from Addley Leidecker, who held the Lady Maroons (0-2) to just one hit as McCracken County took the 4-1 win.
The night opened with a bang for the Lady Maroons. Mackenzie Stoltz blasted one over the centerfield fence with one out in the top of the first to put Madisonville-North Hopkins up 1-0 after one-half inning. The problem for the Lady Maroons was that was the last hit of the game they would get off Leidecker.
McCracken County tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a passed ball.
The game stayed knotted up at 1-1 until the bottom of the 6th inning. A single, a wild pitch, and a Madisonville error opened the door for the Lady Mustangs to plate three runs and take a 4-1 lead into the final inning.
Leidecker then set the Lady Maroons down in order in the top of the 7th to close out the game.
8th grader Sadie Kirk went the distance pitching for the Lady Maroons. She gave up four runs on 8 hits, striking out six and walking just one in six innings of work.
