Lady Warriors Split DH with Warren Central

The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors picked up their first win of the season Saturday as they split a home doubleheader with the Warren Central Lady Dragons. HCA took the opener in a shootout, winning 21-16. Warren Central came back and took the second half of the doubleheader 11-8.

In the opener, the Lady Warriors broke open a back-and-forth game with 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. HCA then held on to take the 21-16 win.

HCA was up 9-5 after three but saw Warren Central score six runs in the top of the fourth to take an 11-9 lead. The Lady Warriors tied it with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, only to see the Lady Dragons take a 12-11 lead in the top of the 5th.

The first five batters for HCA all reached base safely in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Warriors erupted for 10 runs to take a 21-12 lead. Warren Central scored a run in the sixth and three in the seventh but the Lady Warriors were able to hold on for the win.

The two teams combined for 37 runs on 30 hits in the game.

Ava DeJager was 3-3 with two doubles, a triple, and 5 RBIs for the Lady Warriors. Meredith Watson ended up 3-5 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored.

The second game saw the Lady Dragons jump out to a 7-2 lead after three innings. Heritage closed to within 8-6 going into the seventh, but Warren Central scored three big insurance runs in the top of the 7th and then held off a late Lady Warrior rally to take the 11-8 win.

Heritage scored two runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, but it was not enough to complete the comeback for their second straight win.

Heritage Christian (1-2) was led by Presley Brewer, who finished 3-4 with an RBI. Ava Dejager had another big game going 2-5 with an RBI. Madison Warren was 2-2 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
