A former Lady Tiger standout is now in charge of the Caldwell County High School volleyball program.
Emily (Meeks) Oliver is just the third head coach in the history of Caldwell volleyball, which will play its 25th season this fall. She met with the team Friday morning at CCHS.
Sue Stone started the Lady Tiger program and went the first 14 seasons. Daniel Cortner moved from assistant to head coach in 2015 and presided over the team the last 10 years.
Cortner announced during the team’s awards night program in November that he was stepping down from the position.
Oliver, a 2010 CCHS grad, played for Stone and was on three teams that won at least 32 matches and on two teams that played in the KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
Oliver was also a member of the Caldwell basketball and track teams.
She signed to play volleyball at Lindsey Wilson College and was a member of a Mid-South Conference championship team. Oliver also played college basketball at LWC.
Caldwell went 19-10 last season. The Lady Tigers won the 7th District title before falling to eventual champion Heritage Christian Academy in the semifinals of the 2nd Region tournament.
In 24 previous seasons, Caldwell has won 18 district championships, six 2nd Region titles, 12 All A Classic regional championships and an All A state title in 2010.
