The Trigg County Lady Wildcats picked up a pair of wins Saturday during their appearance in the Kelly Russell Classic in Russellville. The Lady Wildcats knocked off Todd County Central 7-1 and then held on to beat the host Russellville Lady Panthers 7-5.
In the game against Todd County Central, the Lady Wildcats scored four times in the top half of the first and never trailed on their way to a 7-1 win over the Lady Rebels.
Trigg County pitcher Tember Oliver limited the Lady Rebels to just two hits for the game, one of those was a home run from Addison Woodall.
The Lady Wildcats got a big game at the plate from Kady Fuller, who ended up going 2-3 with a double, a home run, and had five RBIs. MaKenna Hendricks added three hits for Trigg County.
Against Russellville, the Lady Wildcats took control of the game with five runs in the top of the sixth inning, only to have to hold off a Russellville rally in the bottom half of the inning to take the two-run win.
Russellville scored in the bottom of the first to go up 1-0. Trigg tied the game in the top of the third and then pulled in front 2-1 on a Kady Fuller blast in the top of the fourth.
Livia Breckel started the Trigg County rally in the top of the sixth with a home run to left field. The Lady Wildcats would end up scoring six runs in the inning. Russellville battled back to within two in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs with two outs, but the Lady Wildcats would finally stop the comeback and then set the Lady Panthers down in order in the seventh.
Veyda Grinols was 2-4 in the game with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Livia Breckel was 1-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Tember Oliver and Lily Eagleson were each 2 for 4.
Oliver got the win in the circle, going seven innings, giving up 5 runs, none of them earned, on 11 hits, striking out five and walking one.
With the two wins, Trigg County improves to 11-6.
