Otega Oweh exceeded expectations that almost everyone had for him after he transferred from Oklahoma to Kentucky to play for coach Mark Pope. He averaged a team-high 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season and shot 49.2 percent from the field.

He was a four-star recruit out of high school and consensus top 100 player in his recruiting class. He came to UK in hopes of enhancing his NBA potential. He could enter the draft but he’s not projected as a likely pick and Pope is hoping he will stay at UK to anchor next year’s team.

While Oweh thinks about basketball a lot, he does have other “little hobbies,” including one that might be a bit surprising.

“When I am by myself, I like to do things with my Legos. When I get alone time and want to relax because we are held to such high standards in basketball, and it demands so much energy, I like to get my Legos out,” he said.

He has his own apartment and mainly builds with Legos on weekends to relax.

“It just helps me relax and chill. I can make different things. It can be decorations for my crib (apartment). I built a plant LEGO, a hedgehog LEGO. It just depends on what I want in my crib,” he said.

“When I was younger, I played with Legos a lot. As I got older, I didn’t. Now that I am a college kid, I have more free time and got back to finding my innocence with my Legos.”

  1. Oweh has the chance to play himself into a top 5 pick in next year’s draft. He needs to work on his 3 point shot but he also needs to learn how to find the open man when it’s clear that he can’t finish a drive…the refs aren’t always going to bail him out with a call, especially on the road. The way he draws attention, he could easily dish out 6 or 7 dimes a game. Doing so, will open up his path to the basket when they realize he is not going to force it every time.

    1. If he could add passing to his resume he would definitely be a top 10 pick in the draft. He’s great on defense a average shooter a bully when he drives and he plays through contact and above the rim. If he would dish it out for open 3s we will be deadly. I think this team shoots the 3 much better. We will break this years mark for most 3 pointers. Oweh will improve his 3. We are one great shooting guard away from being easily a final 4 team.

  2. He is the difference maker for this Kentucky team. We will be great with him and just good without him. If we are going to win a national championship you have to get guys of this caliber to run it back one more year. Thats one good thing about nil. Guys who used to take there chances are coming back to college more and more. It also helps that the NBA want to see results more now because of all the busts in the draft in recent years. Oweh is a NBA shooting guard he has the perfect size. If he comes back and gets about 18-22 ppg and get his 3 point percentage up a little bit he could easily be a first round pick in next years draft. If we are the team i think we will be even if he matches his production he will get picked in next years draft so its a win win for Oweh. With Lowe and Oweh we will be unstoppable ypur only as good as your guards will take you. I would love to get Wilkerson he is the one player i want. He shoots a ton of 3s and connects on a very high percentage for shooting so many which shows me hes deadly from deep. With Wilkerson Oweh and Lowe and you can throw Jasper Johnson in there to learn from the vets we will be scary good. Are front court is also the best and most deep its been in 10 years. I love it. We are easily a top 3 team going into next year. Plus with the guards that we have it will push Chandler Perry and Noah to be much better and better prepared. We will only have this backcourt next year so those 3 coulf spring into starting roles there junior years. I look for Chandler to be a top reserve next year.

    1. He is the difference is us being very good and great. Lowe Oweh and Wilkerson would be a 3 headed monster. Wilkersons game reminds me of Antonio Reeves. He makes scoring look effortless.
