Early in his sophomore season at Pittsburg there were projections that had point guard Jaland Lowe being a potential NBA Draft lottery pick. However, as the year went on his draft status dropped.

After the season ended, he put his name into the transfer portal and quickly committed to Kentucky and coach Mark Pope. He still has not visited campus and has his name in the NBA Draft but his father made it clear on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Talk that he intends to be at UK next season.

“When the team doesn’t do as well, things change which is fine. But he wanted to get back and try to get into the draft process to kind of get some really good feedback to see exactly what NBA teams thought of him right now, what he needs to work on, how he needs to continue to improve,” Marland Lowe said.

The Lowes decided the best and easiest way to get that information was through the NBA Draft process. Jaland Lowe is not jeopardizing his collegiate eligibility and has until May 28 to take his name out of the draft so he can play at UK.

“If you go through the process itself you can get real information back and these guys can look you in the face at some point in time and tell you what they think about you,” Marland Lowe said.  “You know, at some point in time, if you had an opportunity to really, really do good that they might take (draft) you now.

“But at the same time, it’s just about him getting the experience of going through what he’s going to go through and having an opportunity to sit in front of the top names and executives and answer questions. You get to talk and have questions and feedback with them.

“Then he can continue to just decide on what he wants to do and he is able to pull out if need be, and we’d be right at the University of Kentucky.”

  1. There is so many combination of lineups you can use. I think the Lowe Oweh Aberdeen JQ Garrison lineup is scary good. How would anyone be able to score on this lineup. You can also play small ball and play Lowe Oweh Williams Diouboute JQ. That would also be a killer lineup. How about Perry Johnson Noah Croatian Moreno in 2 years?? Incredible. I’m almost going to agree with Goodman on this one which I hate to do and say we are almost too deep. He’s going to have to go with a platoon like system. Get your best 2 teams together and then you have a couple extra subs on them 2 teams in case of injuries. Aberdeens situation is crazy. He just won a national championship and was penciled in to be the starting 2 guard at Florida were he would have probably gotten close to 30 minutes per game. He chooses Kentucky and will probably only play around 20-22 minutes per game? Money talks and BS walks. Florida lost on a starter on a great team next year over $$$. I don’t know if Aberdeen starts or is the 6th man on this team. He was the 6th man on Florida’s team last year that won the championship. We also got Alabama’s 6th man. Both of the 2 SEC transfers had big roles on great teams. The best part about is they just scratched the surface on there potential. I look for both to be around 10 ppg. We will probably have 6 guys who average double figures scoring this year, and a couple of more guys very close to double digits. We have so many weapons we will probably rotate who has the big game every night. Oweh would still be the best player on the team but we will have 2 other guys who are neck and neck with him. Lowe and Oweh will average over 30 ppg combined easily. I’ve also heard from a couple of sources it will be a toss up who starts the year between Diouboute and the Croatian kid. I guess the Croatian kid is much better than I anticipated. It usually takes international guys a year to adjust to the speed of American basketball. I think he has a reserve role in year 1 and he takes off in year 2 but hey maybe I’m wrong?
