Madisonville-North Hopkins has the No. 1 seed for the 7th District softball tournament after edging Caldwell County 2-1 Thursday in Princeton.
A pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning were the difference in the game as the Lady Maroons pushed their winning streak to seven games. Madisonville has taken 12 of its last 13 matchups.
Caldwell (8-10 overall, 4-2 district) led for much of the day, though.
Harper Holeman homered to right-center with two outs in the bottom of the third inning to give the Lady Tigers their 1-0 advantage.
Caldwell managed just three base hits in the contest, however, as Madisonville senior Mackenzie Stoltz struck out 11 and did not surrender a hit after the third inning.
Alexis Wood also pitched well for Caldwell. She scattered six singles and got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the second.
But a Caldwell error in the sixth inning proved costly. That allowed the first two runners to reach base.
Maggie Killough tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center. Sophie Frailley then singled into right-center to drive in the go-ahead run.
Killough was the only player in the game with multiple base hits, going 2-for-2 with the RBI.
The Lady Maroons won 6-5 in eight innings when the two teams met earlier this season in Madisonville.
Madisonville is now 17-7 and 4-0.
The Lady Maroons have won 41 of the last 43 meetings with Caldwell and hold a 50-19 advantage all-time.
The Lady Tigers have lost their last four games this season and five of their last six.
The two teams are expected to meet again next month in the championship game of the 7th District tournament, which will be hosted by Caldwell.
Madisonville will next host Owensboro Apollo on Friday.
Caldwell will play at home on Friday against Union County.
