Lady Storm Start Early, Finish Late in Win Over Mayfield

Hopkins County Central was in seventh heaven on Monday, scoring seven times in the first inning on its way to a 14-3 win over Mayfield in six innings at Mortons Gap.

The Lady Storm used five singles and four walks to plate seven runs in the opening frame. They added three more runs in the third inning to up their lead to 10-1.

After Mayfield scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, Hopkins County Central ended the game with four runs in the home half of the sixth.

After two walks with one out, Cadence Allen and Layla Sorrells followed with RBI singles. Kylee Saterfield ended the game with a two-run triple to centerfield.

Allen paced the 12-hit Lady Storm attack with four hits and three runs scored. Sorrells and Emily Ballard both had two hits and two RBI, and Saterfield, Brinley Stephens, and Cassidy Knight each drove in a pair of runs.

Ballard pitched a five-hitter, striking out nine and walking one.

Bella Wilson had three hits for Mayfield (5-14), and Anabella Ramos added two hits.

Hopkins County Central (7-21) will host Webster County on Thursday.
