Three of the top four seeds advanced to the semifinal round of the Region 2 Girls Doubles Tennis Tournament on Monday in Henderson.
Defending regional champion Kylie Demoss and Caroline Lovvorn dropped just two games in two matches in moving into Wednesday’s semifinals. They dispatched Union County’s Addison Tamayo and Julia Mingers 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 16 and defeated University Heights Academy’s Ashton Grace and Emily Davis 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
DeMoss and Lovvorn, the tourney’s top seed, will meet Hopkins County Central’s Addison Rickard and Lilly Armour in the semifinal round.
Rickard and Armour knocked off the three-seed Addison Kirtley and Abby Hargiss of Henderson County 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. They then beat Caldwell County’s Meleah Greenfield and Troy Freeman 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 to continue their run to the state tournament.
Last year’s region runner-up, Albany Ray and Emma Tagg of Madisonville, moved back into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Union County’s Tristen Thompson and Abigail Driesbach and a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Webster County’s Kimberly Shelton and Caila Clary.
Ray and Tagg, the four seed, will face Hopkins County Central’s Elissa Adams and Callie Mackey, the two seed, in the semifinals. Adams and Mackey defeated Lyon County’s Rebecca Neighbors and Lillian Williams 6-0, 6-0, and Caldwell County’s Jayden Lamb and Paysen Menser.
The semifinalists have qualified for the KHSAA State Tournament later this month in Lexington, but will first play the semifinals and championship on Wednesday at Henderson County High School.
