Jason Leek approached his college recruiting process the same way he worked to improve his basketball game in his high school years at Heritage Christian Academy.

That hard work paid off on Tuesday as the school’s all-time leading scorer signed to continue playing basketball for Bethel University.

Leek said he chose the NAIA school in McKenzie, Tennessee, over Brescia and Alice Lloyd. He added that the coaching staff at Bethel sold him on his choice.

“They were extremely welcoming. They showed me the role that they wanted me in, and showed me their facilities and the atmosphere on campus. “It just felt like home, and felt like a place that I needed to go,” Leek said.

Leek averaged 33.6 points a game for the Warriors in 2024-25, finishing as the state’s second-leading scorer. The 6-1 guard shot 52% from the field and 38% from the 3-point line. He also led the Warriors in rebounds (8.6), assists, and steals in earning All-District and All-Region honors.

Leek finished his high school career as HCA’s all-time leading scorer with 2,535 points. He topped 50 points four times during his senior season and set a school record with 55 points against Trigg County on Jan. 28.

“He’s an incredibly talented player, but his hard work and dedication are the reason he’s here today,” Leek’s coach Matt McGowan said. “Jason is a prime example of what all student athletes should strive to be, both in the classroom and on the court. In his personal life, he’s been a shining example to his fellow students. He’s an excellent kid and an excellent ball player.”

Leek says he wants to pursue a degree in sports management or business management.
