The Ohio Valley League 2025 season kicked off on Saturday evening with a game between the Hoptown Hoppers and the Henderson Flash. Hoptown’s pitchers were not able to throw as many strikes as they would have liked, as they walked a total of 13 batters.

The free baserunners were the main deciding factor in the 17-7 loss for the Hoppers. Cody Jones made the start on the mound and was able to strike out six despite pitching just three innings.

Kolby Webb got the first hit of the season for the Hoppers with a single in the top of the first inning. Owen Hutcheson, Cole Reynolds, Dalyn Hamilton, and Carson Tucker had the other hits for Hoptown in the game.

Reynolds and Hutcheson finished with two runs batted in each, with the latter hitting a two-run homer run in the top of the third, the first long ball of the season for the Hoppers.

Hoptown might not have started their season like they wanted to, but they will have a quick chance to redeem themselves against the Madisonville Miners on Sunday, June 1. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
