Pitching was the name of the game for the matchup between the Hoptown Hoppers and the Paducah Chiefs of the Ohio Valley League, as both teams had a combined nine hits.

Gavin Powell made the start on the mound for the Hoppers and pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run. But it was not enough once he came out, as Hoptown’s offense was never really able to get going, eventually falling 2-0 to the Chiefs.

A costly error in the outfield led to a run in the top of the seventh inning for Paducah, and then a single in the top of the ninth gave them some insurance with another run.

Konnor Scheidt drew a walk in the bottom of the ninth, but they were not able to score him, as a hard hit ball off the bat of Dominick Bello went right to the Chiefs’ second basemen to end the game.

Bello and Kolby Webb were the two players for the Hoppers that were able to get on base with hits, both of them being singles.

This makes Hoptown 0-4, which is something they will be hoping they can change in their next game against the Fulton Railroaders on Wednesday, June 4. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Lohaus Field in Fulton, KY.
