
Aidon Butts pitched well for Hoptown, but Fulton sent the Hoppers to their fifth-straight loss to open the season.
The homestanding Railroaders (2-3) scored all of their runs in the fifth inning while turning away Hoptown 3-2 in Ohio Valley League action Wednesday night.
Butts pitched into the sixth inning, allowing just one earned run on seven hits. He fanned seven and did not issue a walk.
However, the Fulton pitching was even better.
Tyler Chapman did not allow a hit through the first five innings and earned the win. He struck out seven and walked one.
Taylor Hughes went the next three innings, giving up just one unearned run on one hit. He fanned six and walked one.
Hayes Melville pitched the ninth to earn the save. He allowed one earned run on two hits while finishing off the victory.
Jadyn Perez was 2-for-4 at the plate for Fulton while Austin Phillips doubled.
Chance Sweeney went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the Hoppers.
Hunter Swanson had a run-scoring single with two outs in the top of the ninth to get Hoptown within 3-2 and get the potential tying run on base. However, a pop up ended the game.
A two-out error led to two runs for Fulton in the fifth. Jacob Lott singled home the first run of the frame for the Railroaders.
The Hoppers play again on Friday when they host the Henderson Flash.
