The Hoptown Hoppers were the final remaining winless team in the Ohio Valley League, but that all changed in their game against the Paducah Chiefs on Wednesday evening.

Hoptown was able to score eight runs in the top of the first inning, which was the key factor in them being able to get the win with a score of 12-1.

The first two runs came from a single from Kolby Webb and a sacrifice play after a walk and an error that left runners on second and third with no outs.

A groundout from Konnor Scheidt then scored another run, but that meant that the Hoppers had two outs in the inning. But their offense was able to score five more runs with those two outs.

A double from Grady Broughton, a ground ball from Cole Reynolds, a line driving leading to an error by Chance Sweeney, and a another single from Webb scored the Hoppers’ other five runs from their big first inning.

As for the rest of the offense, theater plays that finished with hits in the game were from Owen Hutcheson and Dominick Bello, and they also both recorded steals

Collin Toedter made the start on the mound for the Hoppers, who tallied three strikeouts and allowed just one run in six innings of work.

The Hoppers will be looking to begin a win streak in their next game on Wednesday, June 11, against the Fulton Railroaders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Christian County High School.
