The Hoptown Hoppers went into their game on Monday evening against the Paducah Chiefs looking to start a win streak, and that is exactly what they were able to.
The key to their win was their offense, as they found themselves down 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but were able to fight back and get the win 6-5 to give themselves a two-game win streak.
Konnor Scheidt started the scoring for the Hoppers with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. The Chiefs then took their 5-2 lead, which meant that Hoptown had some work to do.
JJ Thompson then singled in the bottom of the fifth which scored two runs after the throw from Paducah’s outfielder was a bit off. Then a double from Owen Hutcheson scored Thompson from second.
But the nail in the coffin was yet another hit from Scheidt, a single this time, which was able to score Hutcheson from first. This 6-5 lead was all the team needed in order to close the game out.
The other hits for the Hoppers in the game came from Dominick Bello, Aidon Butts, and Alec Hotaling.
Heath Henley made the start on the mound for the Hoppers, and he pitched four innings with six strikeouts. Owen Boswell was then able to come in and shut it down, pitching two innings and striking out all but one batter.
Hoptown will be looking to extend their winning streak to three in their next game on Tuesday, June 17, against the Fulton Railroaders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Lohaus Field in Fulton, KY.
