Big Fifth Inning Leads Hoppers Past Miners

In their matchup on Thursday evening, the Hoptown Hoppers were looking to win their second straight hame, while the Madisonville Miners were hoping to bounce back from a loss. But it was the Hoppers that were able to come out on top.

Gavin Powell made the start on the mound for Hoptown, and was able to pitch six innings. While he did allow six hits, he only allowed two runs on his way to racking up six strikeouts. Zach Hampton was also able to come in and pitch very solid, as he went three innings and tallied seven strikeouts.

They were both key in the Hoppers being able to get the 7-2 win.

As for the Miners, Ernesto Mendiondo started, but was only able to pitch 3.2 innings. He only allowed one hit, but allowed six hits due to the six walks that he gave up.

Madisonville struck first in the top of the first inning with a two-run shot from Nazhir Bergen that went to the opposite field. However, those were the only two runs they were able to score, as it was all Hoptown from there.

The Hoppers’ first run came in the bottom of the third from a groundout from Aidon Butts that scored Chance Sweeney from third.

The fourth inning was a big one for Hoptown, and it started with a double from Owen Hutcheson that scored a run. Myles Denton then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dominick Bello from third. Hutcheson was then able to score on a wild pitch, and Sweeney then scored on an error on the same play. The team’s five-run inning was then capped off by a double from Butts.

Bello then homered in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend the Hoppers’ lead to five.

Hoptown’s one other hit in the game came from Dalyn Hamilton.

As for the Miners, their other hits came from Cooper Wright, Coulter Hamilton, Justin Early, Pete Britton, and Dylan Toler.

Madisonville will be looking to break their two-game losing streak in their next game on Friday, June 27, against the Fulton Railroaders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Madisonville City Park.

As for the Hoppers, they will be hoping to extend their win streak to three games in their next one against the Full Count Rhythm on Friday, June 27. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, KY.
