The Hoptown Hoppers went into their game against the Henderson Flash on Tuesday evening looking for a win after three straight losses, and they were able to get the job done. But it was definitely not an easy win.
Owen Boswell made the start on the mound for the Hoppers, and was able to pitch four innings. He did allowed five walks, but allowed just one hit and no runs, and that was a big help in Hoptown being able to get the narrow 6-5 win.
The Hoppers’ first run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning when Aidon Butts grounded out to the second basemen, which was able to score the run from third. The team’s next runs then came in the form on a two-run single from Konnor Scheidt, which gave the team a 3-0 lead.
A pair of big RBI doubles then gave the Flash a 5-3 lead, which meant the Hoppers needed to put together some clutch swings. And that is exactly what they were able to do in the bottom of the ninth.
Owen Hutcheson cam up as the third batter in the inning and doubled, which scored Myles Denton from second. Bruce Wyche was then able to score on a passed ball, tying the game at five runs apiece. Dominick Bello then came in to pinch-hit, and he was able to deliver a walk-off sacrifice fly to end the game.
The Hoppers will be hoping this can start a win streak for them, and they will be looking to get their second win in a row in their next game against the Madisonville Miners on Wednesday, July 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from Madisonville City Park.
