The Hoptown Hoppers and the Henderson Flash faced off in the Wild Card round of the Ohio Valley League Playoffs on Sunday evening, and it was the Hoppers that were able to stay alive and advance to the next round.
Owen Boswell made the start on the mound for the Hoppers and was able to pitch five innings. He only allowed two hits and two runs on his way to five strikeouts, as he was a big key in the team being able to get the 8-3 win.
Hoptown’s first runs came in the top of the fourth inning when Myles Denton hit a fly ball and reached base on an error, and that scored three runs. Owen Hutcheson then doubled, which scored another run, making it 4-2.
A quick steal of home by Gabe Eddington and a home run from Denton made it 6-2. Then a single from Eddington in the top of the eighth sealed the deal.
The team’s other hits in the game came from Cole Reynolds and Dominick Bello.
As a result of the win, the Hoppers will stay alive in the Ohio Valley League Playoffs. Hoptown will open a best-of-three series on the road on Tuesday at the first-place Full Count Rhythm.
