
John Ross Cardwell and Spencer Pool combined to score 8 goals as the Todd County Central Rebels rolled past Lyon County 9-1 Tuesday night in Elkton in preseason soccer action.
Cardwell scored two goals in the first 8 minutes as the Rebels bolted out to a 2-0 lead. Spencer Pool scored his first goal of the night at the 21;10 mark to extend the lead to 3-0.
Todd County Central then closed out the half with Charlie Campbell heading one in off a corner kick in the final 30 second of the half to make it 4-0 at the break.
It did not take the Rebels long to get things going in the second half. On the opening possession, Spencer Pool was fouled in the box and he converted the ensuing penalty kick just 15 seconds into the half to make it 5-0.
Cardwell scored a header less than four minutes later that made it 6-0.
Lyon County finally got on the board at 50:30 when Boston Mullen broke clear on a run and sent a long shot over the head of Rebel keeper John Mark Campbell to cut the lead to 6-1.
John Ross Cardwell scored twice more in a span of 3:15 beginning at 53:15 as the Rebel lead grew to 8-1. Spencer Pool then ended the match with the 8-goal rule by taking a deflection and putting it into the net at 75:00.
For the night, the Rebels controlled the pace of play throughout, outshooting the Lyons 23 to 2.
