The opening week of the volleyball season has been a pretty good one for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons. The Lady Maroons opened the season by knocking off the defending 2nd Region champions.
Thursday night, Madisonville upended the other team that played in last year’s region title match, and they did so in impressive fashion.
The Lady Maroons got off to a quick start and kept rolling on their way to a straight set win over the Union County Bravettes.
Madisonville was never seriously challenged in the opening set, taking a 25-10 win. Union County got a little closer in the second, but still it was the Lady Maroons taking a 25-18 win to go up two sets to none.
The Lady Maroons then closed out the match with another big 25-10 win in the third set to seal the sweep.
Madisonville’s Sadie Kirk was huge at the service line, finishing the match with 10 aces. She also had several kills at the net.
The Lady Maroons got strong upfront play from Leah Moody, Bri Petit, and Lilly Gobin. Carlee Sandidge, K.B. Sutton, and Mashyla McAdii gave Madisonville big moments on defense and digs.
Madisonville-North Hopkins (2-0) will hit the road for the first time Monday when the Lady Maroons take on Webster County.
