Following Tuesday’s loss to Hopkinsville, Coach Cesar Turmero was hoping to see more focus and effort from his Caldwell County Tigers. He got just that on Thursday as the Tigers traveled to Trigg County and returned home with a 4-1 win.

The win snapped a brief two-game skid and for Caldwell to within a game of .500 at 3-4.

For most of the match, Trigg County coach Kyle Bleidt implored his team to communicate more than they were, but it was Caldwell County who did the talking early as Colin Turmero stole a pass in the Trigg end and scored from the side two minutes into the match.

Trigg County had a chance at tying the match seven minutes later on a breakaway, but the shot went wide and kept the Wildcats off the board.

Trigg did knock home the equalizer in the 16th minute when Jenson Nolte rebounded his missed shot and sent it home for his second goal of the season.

Caldwell continued putting pressure on Trigg, and a foul just outside the box in the 21st minute gave the Tigers a free kick from the left side. Colin Turmero found his brother, Kale, who redirected the pass into the goal.

Kale returned the favor later in the half when he fed freshman Anderson Garcia to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

Trigg County’s sixth foul of the half gave Caldwell a penalty kick inside the final minute of the half, which Colin Tumero sent home for his 12th goal of the season.

The Wildcats entered the match allowing just five goals in six games, but the Tigers outshot Trigg 9-7 by controlling the midfield and working the sidelines effectively.

Trigg tried to mount an offensive attack with the through ball, but their attempts were either too strong or Caldwell’s goalie, Grayson Harris, was quick to the ball. Harris finished with eight saves.

Caldwell had one more shot to add a goal with nine minutes left, but Colin Tumero’s penalty kick was turned away by Trigg goalie Cam McCormick.

Caldwell leads the all-time series with Trigg 35-25 with six ties and hasn’t lost to the Wildcats since 2019 (4-0-2).

The Tigers will play at Mayfield on Tuesday, while Trigg County (3-4) will play at Lyon County on Tuesday.
