
Christian County High School paid tribute to one of the schools most outstanding athletes Friday night. During ceremonies before Friday night’s football game, the school retired the jersey of boys’ basketball standout Anthony Hickey Jr.
Anthony Hickey Jr. is a 2011 graduate of Christian County. He was named Kentucky Mr. Basketball after leading the basketball team to the 2011 State Championship while earning the Sweet 16 MVP and Kentucky Associate Press Player of the Year.
Hickey averaged 18 points, 4.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 steals during his Senior campaign. Hickey played his college basketball at LSU where he was selected to the SEC All Freshman Team in 2012 and All Defensive Team in 2013.
He finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma State. Presently, he has been playing professionally overseas since 2015. He has won multiple Championships and he led the league in steals in 2018 and 2022. He earned the VTB United League Performance of the Season in 2022 by scoring 43 points, along with 10 rebounds and 11 assists, completing a rare triple-double.
Anthony was selected the Italy A2 Series Basketball League MVP for the 2024-2025 season.
Additionally, Hickey has been named among the 2025 inductees to the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
