In a battle of the 2nd Region against the 5th Region Saturday afternoon, it was the team from Western Kentucky that emerged victorious. The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons got a late goal from Macy Wright and then held on to take a 4-3 win over the North Hardin Lady Trojans Saturday afternoon at the Stadium of Champions in the Lady Colonel Classic.

The match went back and forth from the very beginning. The Lady Maroons got on the board just three minutes into the contest when Aletheia Golightly found the goal to give Madisonville a 1-0 lead.

North Hardin responded just over 12 minutes later with a goal to tie the score at 1-1.

McKinley Wilson came back for the Lady Maroons 12 minutes later when she scored to make it a 2-1 match, putting the Lady Maroons back in front.

Still, back came the Lady Trojans. North Hardin scored at the 30 minute mark to tie things back up at 2-2 and that would be where the score was when the second-half got underway.

Alethea Golightly again scored for the Lady Maroons just 7 minutes into the second-half, giving Madisonville a 3-2 lead.

North Hardin got right back in the match at the 57 minute mark when they headed a shot into the front of the net and tied the match back up at 3-3.

The score remained that way until the 67 minute mark when Macy Wright took a ball right in front of the net and found the goal, putting the Lady Maroons up 4-3.

For the final 13 minutes of the match, the Lady Maroon defense did its job and kept North Hardin from getting another scoring opportunity as the Lady Maroons held on to pick up the win.

With the win, the Lady Maroons improve to 6-3 on the season and will now get ready to go on the road to Ohio County on Monday night.
