Quarterback Cutter Boley could get his first start this season when Kentucky closes out a three-game home stand against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
Boley played most of the second half after starter Zach Calaza left and didn’t return in the Wildcats’ 30-23 loss to No. 17 Ole Miss last Saturday. Boley completed one of three passes, including a 38-yard strike to Hardley Gilmore.
Stoops said Calzada wasn’t scheduled to practice on Monday, allowing Boley to earn more repetitions under center in practice this week. Beau Allen will serve as Boley’s backup until Calzada returns, Stoops said Monday.
“I’m excited to see Cutter,” Stoops said. “I say that about every position, when somebody gets hurt — I never want to see a player get hurt — but when that happens, about every time I’ve been up here, I’ve said I can’t wait to see so-and-so play in fairness.
“So don’t over-blow that for a quarterback, like everybody does. I’m always excited for the next man up, and I’m excited to see Cutter, and Cutter will absolutely play.”
In his first two games as the team’s starter, Calzada has thrown for 234 yards and has rushed for a touchdown.
“There are things that we all can do better, that he can do better,” Stoops said. “We probably left some plays on the field (in the loss to Ole Miss). He’s resilient (and) he’s been around. He’s a little beat up right now, but he has to get himself healthy and get back out there as soon as he can, and he’ll be fine.”

Boley's first appearance in the official stats is UK's next to last possession, starting with about 6 minutes left in the game. Boley had two possessions, and one ended with a field goal.
No way Boley played "most of the second half"
When Boley finally got his chance, not because Stoops wanted to "see him", but because QB1 was injured, and Boley would still be getting pine time but for that injury.
Stoops can't avoid the facts no matter how he tries.
Stoops has no intentions of giving Boley a chance to be the starter. He talks like it is possible, but when he said this about Calzada, "He’s resilient (and) he’s been around. He’s a little beat up right now, but he has to get himself healthy and get back out there as soon as he can, and he’ll be fine.”
That is what Stoops is really thinking. He has NO intentions of giving Boley a real chance.
Old Fan, you have Stoops pegged to a tee.
Boley will get a chance to show how much he's really improved against Eastern Michigan. This would be a great game for him to get his feet a little more wet. He needs as many reps as he can get because I have a feeling Calzada is going to end up getting hurt. He didn't even make it through 2 whole games. I doubt he will last a entire season. Beau Allen better start getting some reps as well. He might be the best QB on the team. They act like if he plays we will get humiliated? Aren't we already getting humiliated? I would like to see all the QBs get a series and see during live game action who really gives us the best chance to win. It would surprise me if Beau Allen was really good. He's very intelligent. I'm sure he could complete some passes. Stoops acts like he doesn't know what to do. He's had 13 years to figure this thing out.
I read elsewhere tonight that Zach is practicing and will be available.
Boley to the portal? A matter of time.
I'm afraid you are correct Prof. Boley will join a long list of QB's that went elsewhere under Stoops. It's not surprising that very little is being heard from Barnhart. I guess he does not want to get too close in case the stink rubs off on him. I have news for him – it's too late.
You know they will start Zach.
