University Heights Academy has won two straight volleyball matches after a championship loss over the weekend in the All A Classic Region Tournament. The Lady Blazers took down Hopkinsville in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, 25-8 on Tuesday at Tiger Gym.

UHA broke open a close opening set with a 7-2 run to grab a 17-11 lead. Hoptown’s Madysen Taggart responded with four kills, and Alayna King added an ace to get the Lady Tigers to within 17-16. UHA countered with the next five points and held on for the 25-21 set win.

Niyati Patel had three kills for the Lady Blazers in the opening set.

UHA led wire to wire in the second set thanks to a strong service game that saw them notch seven aces, three by Gretchen Durham. For the match, UHA only had four service errors.

UHA put together another wire-to-wire set in the third as Audrey Lovell and Niyona Brown each had three kills to lead the Lady Blazers to the 25-8 win.

Hopkinsville’s struggles came to a crest in the set thanks to 10 attack errors that quashed any chance of a comeback.

Durham had five aces and 15 assists for the Lady Blazers, while Cassidy Keller had eight digs and five kills. Patel added five kills and four aces for UHA.

Taggart led Hopkinsville with 13 kills and two aces, while King had six digs, six assists, and three kills. Brooke Stewart also had a kill and three digs for the Lady Tigers.

The win was UHA’s second over the Lady Tigers this season, although their Aug. 23 win came out of district play. UHA upped its winning streak over its district foe to 23 matches.

The Lady Blazers (6-7) improved to 1-2 in district play and will host Webster County on Thursday – the first of five straight home matches that will include district matchups with Hopkinsville (Sept. 16) and Christian County (Sept. 23).

Hopkinsville dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Lady Tigers have three straight road matches coming up, starting with a district contest on Thursday at Fort Campbell.
