
Trigg County scored three first-half goals in a seven-minute timeframe to take control early and defeat Lyon County 7-0 on Monday at Josh Nichols Field.
The win secured the Wildcats’ number one seed in the two-team district, which includes the Lyons.
James Garnett opened the scoring out front off a pass from Nate Kelly in the 13th minute. His fourth goal of the season staked the Wildcats to the early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Matthew Choate drove up the right side and found the net for his fifth goal of the season to double Trigg’s lead.
Izaiah Ruzicka banged one home from deep 20 minutes in for a 3-0 Trigg lead.
The Wildcats would add two more goals in the half – a Corben Woodall rebound off a miss in front and Jenson Nolte’s sixth goal of the season.
In the second half, Matthew Choate crossed to his brother Kyle for his first goal of the season.
Carsen Gresham closed out the Trigg scoring when he put home a penalty kick in the 61st minute.
Trigg County outshot the Lyons 21-9 with Wildcat goalie Cam McCormick making seven saves in goal. The clean sheet was Trigg’s second of the season as the Wildcat defense is allowing 1.1 goals per game.
Lyon County goalie Justin Hicks saved eight shots, with five coming in the second half. The Lyons got some good looks early but were turned away by McCormick and the Trigg defense in front.
The Lyons (1-10) will host Graves County on Thursday and play at Heritage Christian Academy on Friday.
Trigg County (5-4) will host Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday for senior night.
