Senior tight end Josh Kattus continues to do remarkable charity work off the field — last week he hosted a shoe drive to benefit Camp Horsin’ Around — but don’t overlook what he’s doing on the field.

After three games, he’s tied with Kendrick Law for the most receptions with eight, leads the team in receiving yards with 112 and is one of only two players on the team with a touchdown catch going into Saturday night’s game at South Carolina.

Kattus joined us on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Talk, and after elaborating on his weekly hospital visits to see young patients and his selections to the AllState Good Works Team, he briefly talked about Saturday night’s game against the Gamecocks.

“We’re obviously aware that there’s a lot of people that are doubting us and thinking we can’t get the job done,” said Kattus.  “But that’s not something we talk about or even flinch about when we’re in the football facility. We’re just worried about getting wins on Saturdays.

“I truly believe everyone in the building, in their heart, knows that this is something that we can get done. I think it’s gonna it’s going to be an exciting game. It’s a fun atmosphere. They’re gonna have something to prove after they have just lost two in a row.”

“They’re gonna be ready to play, and we’re ready for that. We’re excited for the challenge and just embracing that.”

WLAP co-host Anthony White, a former all-SEC running back at UK, thought UK could beat Ole Miss and asked Kattus if the team felt it let a win get away against the Rebels.

“We did, we truly did believe that the game should have been ours,” Kattus said. “We had multiple opportunities to win that game, and those are the worst feelings of when you lose. If you go and get blown out … no, we truly believed that we should have won that game and left a lot out there on the table.

“It made us mad. It made us angry. But we know we still have a lot of season ahead of us.”

  1. The media’s top heisman candidate looked less than mediocre on 2 key plays Saturday in the 4th quarter

After a 46 (+/-) yard pass completion put SC on the 2 yard line, the play call and the play execution were both absolutely pathetic!

It was 1st & goal at the 2. Surely it’s with it to try at least one run before risking putting the ball in the air, but the coach (OC?, HC?, or was it the water boy?) called for a pass play. Just to prove the QB is not heisman material, he LOST 15 +/- yards ion 1st down Way out of TD range ON 2nd & very long.

Then on the next series the supposedly great QB got sacked for about 15 yards again on 1st down. Not a 7 yard loss but a major loss!

Can UK take advantqge of an overrated QB?
We can always hope for a first.

  2. This is the swing game of all swing games. Win and we are 3-1 1-1 in the SEC. This win will give us some hope the next 4 weeks when play the hardest 4 game stretch maybe in Kentucky history. If we can muster one win or possibly even 2 we have w chance to win 8-9 games. If we lose to South Carolina I still say we upset one of the next 4 teams we play. So we will be 3-5 headed to Vanderbilt Tennessee tech and Louisville which all 3 games are winnable. Maybe the Louisville game is a 50/50. Right now I'm saying we will go 7-5. Which will be incredible considering all the freshman that are getting playing time. I also think it buys Stoops another year or 2. We should get better and better every year over the next 3 years. If Stoops is the coach we will average 7 wins if Sumrall is the coach we will average 8-9 wins a year. Yes Tulane got blown out by Mississippi but Tulanes best recruit is a high 3* QB the rest of the team sucks. Tulane has a time made up of freshman ajd sophomores. They will hit there prime next year if Sumrall is still there.

    1. SC could be the most pivotal game in 12+ seasons. It may be the ticket to another year of a free ride for Stoops or it may be the end of an era that peaked and is still sliding back down from the peak.

The UK FB Program future may be impacted by this game, as well as the season and the future of the HC & OC. It may also be the deciding factor if Boley is on the bench nearly all the game.

A big game and the supposedly great SC QB just made 2 terrible plays Saturday. Maybe he will continue & maybe he will be sharp.

I recall years & years when FL would start well below their pre-season expectations and then they would unleash their offense and defense to wallop UK in the 3rd or 4th game of the season which got them untracked and they would roll forward with dominance. Is UK going to give SC a chance to get in sync and start a roll or is UK going to actually start a game when the players are wide awake and fired up to play and win?

This is a major game for this season for both teams.

  3. Major game, or a totally irrelevant game. The loser will finish in the SEC cellar. The winner can maintain some hope for a 6 win season.

For Stoops, I agree with Little Baron, if he wins this game, he remains on coaching life support, but if he loses this game, getting 4 wins seems out of reach, and he should resign.

      1. Stoops’ resignation needs a big encouragement – a job offer…
        So…
Some program with an AD as pathetic as Barnie needs to relieve UK of the Stoops burden and then UK needs to get rid of our AD.

  4. Stoops and his staff have the job of getting this UK team ready for war emotionally against a struggling SC team, which is now a wounded animal. Beamer will have his young men prepared, count on it! Coach Stoops has not done well in the past in games of this magnitude in building confidence and success and in "rising to the occasion." A UK win this Saturday inside William Brice would help give a glimmer of hope to a Kentucky team that faces a rough road ahead. Coach Stoops needs this win or the pressure will only mount against him. Can he get his team ready emotionally in this one? I just don't have much confidence, but we shall see. First mistake Coach made thus far in 2025, IMO, was not starting Boley to start the season. UK could be 3-0 now from what I have seen from the two QB's under fire with bullets flying..

    1. Agree a major mistake not to start Boley in game 1 & all games.

Without the starter’s injury, Boley would still be watching from the bench & seldom see any action.

A tough break for the injured QB, but he should not have been brought to UK with Boley needing to see coaches show confidence in him.

  5. All i got to say let see how the season unfolds before jumping the conclusion. Just cheer the team on and quit the bickering and crying like bunch of wolf's

  6. This is a top 50 to top 60 team. It is 15th out of 16 in the SEC.

    That is not acceptable.

The current record is not very significant because the on the field performance through 3 games has been that of a top 50 to top 60 team. There is no reason to believe that UK's position relative to the field will change significantly.

This is Stoops' brand of football. Stoops is not capable of change. His style of football cannot compete in the new SEC.

He knows it. But he is greedy. He will not do the right thing and resign. He wants that $9 mil+ per year to continue for as long as UK is stupid enough to pay it.
