Hoptown Finishes 12th in Final Region Golf Tourney (w/PHOTOS)

The Hopkinsville High School golf team closed out a chapter in its history on Tuesday with a 12th-place finish at the Region 2 golf tournament hosted by the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Henry Riggs, who shot an 11-over-par 82 to finish in a 24th-place tie. Riggs had five birdies on the afternoon and shot a 3-over-par 35 on the front nine.

Isaiah Wood finished tied for 30th place with a 13-over-par 84, while Ryan Martin tied for 50th place with a 19-over-par 90.

Matt Baker finished tied for 61st place with a 93, and Sam Riggs tied for 73rd with a 98.

Hopkinsville finished two shots behind 11th-place Ohio County and missed a top 10 finish by five shots.

The match was the final one for the high school, which will combine with Christian County High next year.

Owensboro Catholic won the region championship with a team score of 311, which was five shots better than second-place Henderson County. Both teams will advance to next week’s KHSAA state first round at the Calvert City Country Club.

Muhlenberg County’s Cy Tudor and Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Hayden tied for top honors with a 3-over-par 74, with Tudor taking the individual title on the second playoff hole. Friday’s weather at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club was in stark contrast to Monday’s girls’ tournament at Henderson County, which was delayed five hours due to weather.

Tuesday featured mild temperatures and no rain.
