
Caldwell County used a strong service game to defeat Trigg County in straight sets on Thursday in Cadiz, 25-17, 25-11, 25-22.
The Lady Tigers had 26 aces in the match that helped overcome seven service errors and 17 attack errors.
Caldwell held firm control of the match that featured seven ties and six lead changes.
The Lady Tigers used a 6-1 run to break a 5-5 tie. Trigg got as close as three points on four occasions, but a pair of aces by Mycah Riddle sparked a 7-2 run, and the Lady Tigers took the first set 25-17.
Trigg jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set, but Riddle had four aces as part of a 9-0 run that saw Caldwell take a 10-5 advantage. Trigg creeped to within 14-11, but Caldwell closed the match on an 11-0 run with Chevy McGowan putting four aces onto the Lady Tiger stat sheet.
The third set proved to be the most competitive of the night. Trigg again got out to the early lead 6-1. Caldwell chipped away, but Trigg kept the lead until a 19-19 tie. The match was tied again at 20 and 22, until Caldwell closed with three straight points and ended the match appropriately on an ace by Kylee White.
Caldwell County came into the match averaging 11 aces a match, but more than doubled that Thursday with eight from McGowan, seven from Riddle, five from White, three from Maddie Cooper, two from Troy Freeman, and one from Tink Clark.
McGowan also had six kills, with Med Thomas and Laylay Shearer adding five each.
White chipped in with 19 assists and five digs, while Riddle had 14 digs and McGowan had 11.
Trigg County got six kills and two blocks from Cali Jones, with Grace Carver adding four kills. Chloe Adams added five assists and four digs. Sierra Williams had four assists, and Lilah Booth added 11 digs.
Trigg County only had three service errors in the match, but put up only two aces, well below their average of 11.
The win was Caldwell’s second in six true road matches this season, while Trigg County fell to 2-6 in home games played in the primary school gymnasium, while Wildcat Gym undergoes significant renovations that won’t be complete until after the volleyball season.
Caldwell County has won 25 straight matches against Trigg County dating back to 2006.
The Lady Tigers (11-10) will host Christian Fellowship in a Saturday morning contest at 11:00.
Trigg County (3-12) will play at Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday.
