One thing you never have to worry about in St. Augustine is finding a quality spot to eat because there is a long, long list of great food venues.
However, thanks to the advice of a full-time resident at the condo complex where we are staying, I found a hidden gem Saturday that I cannot believe I did not know about before.
Une Autre Histoire La French Bakery at 125 A1A Beach Blvd. (phone 904 679 3411) is amazing. The bakery opened in 2023 and owners Valerie and Alexandre Perchat of Annecy, France, do a booming business based on what I saw and was told which is no surprise considering they have over 30 year of experience as pastry chefs.
Just look at what the bakery offers on a daily basis: Pastries, Tarts, Salads, Drip Coffee, Eclairs, Brioche, Focaccia, French Chai Lattes, Croissants, Hot Sandwiches, Croque Monsieur, Cappuccinos, Breads, Cold Sandwiches, Quiches, Hot Chocolate, Cakes, French Toast, Cookies and Desserts. They also have seasonal bakery items.
I will vouch for the croissants being the best I have ever had anywhere — so flaky and light that they almost melt in your mouth. The eclairs looked amazing — I will be back for those — and customers in line with me raved about the bread selections.
The cafe has a coziness to it that makes it even more unique. I was a bit surprised at how many folks were so fluent speaking French and it did give it even more the feel of being an authentic French cafe.
And I loved this sign:
YOU ARE NOT IN A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT.
YOU ARE IN A FRENCH BAKERY.
SLOW DOWN AND ENJOY.
BON APPETITI
It was a good mix of those dining and ordering takeout when I was there. The cafe serves breakfast, brunch and lunch and some of the sandwiches looked great on those croissants.
So while I love the sun and beach, I have found a new favorite spot to visit/dine and get a taste of France while in St. Augustine.

Should visit during holiday season – couple million lights adorn the entire downtown – quite a sight.
Larry, do you ever stay home at all. Lol seems to be a nice place to visit.
