It was right there on the verge of happening. The streak came oh so close to ending on a historic night. But sports can be heartbreaking at times, and that it was what happened to the Todd County Central Lady Rebels on the volleyball court Tuesday night
The Logan County Cougars pulled off a ‘reverse sweep’ against the Todd County Central Lady Rebels in Elkton to claim yet another 13th District championship in an intense five-set battle.
With the win, the Lady Cougars stay perfect against Todd County Central. But this time, the Lady Rebels made them sweat it out like never before, taking Logan County to five sets, and down to the final points at that.
The Lady Rebels came out focused in on task, and ready to roll. Todd County Central took the opening set with an impressive 25-18 win to go up one set to none. It was the first time since August 2022 that the Lady Rebels had taken a set from the Lady Cougars.

That apparently got the Lady Cougars’ attention, but the Lady Rebels were able to ride the momentum in the second set. Logan County pushed the Lady Rebels until the very end, but Todd County Central got the job done, taking the second set 26-24 to go up two sets to none.
Now, Logan County found itself in a different spot. It was the first time since going to the best-of-5 sets that the Todd County Central Lady Rebels had won two sets against the Lady Cougars, who now had their backs and their title hopes firmly pressed to the wall. The Lady Rebels, who had won 8 of their last 10, were on the verge of picking up arguably the biggest win in program history.
But the Lady Cougars were not going down without a fight. Logan County came back and took the third set 25-18 to get back in the match, down two sets to one.

Logan County then carried the momentum, as it shifted in the Lady Cougars’ direction, and picked up the fourth set 25-20, to pull even with the Lady Rebels at two sets each, setting up the championship-deciding fifth set. And, for those in attendance, this would set a finish that would test their heart health.
The fifth set came right down to the final moments. But, it was Logan County scoring the final points of the match to take a heart-stopping 16-14 win in the fifth set to complete the comeback and pick up yet another district championship.

The Lady Rebels got big nights from the attacking duo of Aubri Penick and Allyssa Wofford. Penick had 28 kills and Wofford 23 kills to lead the Todd Central attack.
Shelby Holderman almost got to 50 assists for the night, finishing with 47 for the Lady Rebels. Chloe Collins led Todd Central with 9 digs.
Penick, Collins, and Holderman were named to the 13th District All-District team.
The Lady Rebels fall to 16-11 and now advance on to the 4th Region volleyball tournament, which is being played at Logan County.
