With the 8th District championship match taking place last night, pairings are now set for next week’s 2nd Region volleyball tournament, which will be played at Hopkins County Central High School. The draw took place virtually Friday morning.
Action will get underway Monday evening with a pair of matches. The 5:30pm patch will have 8th District champion Christian County (19-16) taking on 5th District runner-up Livingston Central (6-15). The two teams did not play this season, in fact the two teams have not met since August 2012 and have not met in the regional tournament since October 2010.
Monday night’s second match will have 6th District champion Henderson County (25-9) taking on the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons (16-19), runners-up out of the 7th District. The two teams met twice this season with Henderson winning in four sets in September and then sweeping the Lady Maroons in October.
Action resumes Tuesday night with two more quarterfinal round matches. The 5:30pm match will have 7th District champion Caldwell County (17-10) going up against 8th District runner-up and defending region champion Heritage Christian Academy (15-18). The Lady Warriors won the only matchup between the two this season and knocked off the Lady Tigers in last year’s region tournament.
The final quarterfinal round match Tuesday night will have 5th District champion Crittenden County (8-14) taking on 6th District runner-up, the Webster County Lady Trojans (21-6). Webster County won their only match against the Lady Rockets this season three sets to one back in September.
The two semifinal matches will be played at 5:30 and 7 on Wednesday night with the championship slated for Thursday night at 6pm.
